Have a meeting with a shop tomorrow....

I'm finally going into a local shop tomorrow morning to see if they will carry my jewelry.
I met one of the owners at a Chamber of Commerce open house thing a few weeks ago and she was telling me how they like to use local talent.
I of course perked up and gave her my card, showed her what I was wearing, had a nice little chat.
Then I got the flu. ugh
So I called last week to see if she was still interested and lo-and-behold, I will be going down there tomorrow morning with my jewelry in tow.
NOW, I should let you guys know...
Because I need to bring down a decent selection of items, my Etsy shop will be in 'vacation mode' while I'm out at this meeting.
Soooo, if there are any pieces you are interested in, you should jump on them today, because once they are gone, they are gone!
Keep your fingers crossed for me and I'll tell y'all how it goes!!!
Until next time......

Wow, it's a Treasury Bonanza!

Today on Etsy, both Treasury Main and T-West opened up. I was lucky enough to get two (feature myself in one) and then the convos started rolling in.

I'm featured in two others and an alternate in two more! That makes six that I'm involved with today!!!

I have to admit, I've been getting a little down because with all of the treasuries I've been fortunate enough to get lately, it's been quite some time since someone else included me in one of theirs.

Well, that certainly all changed today!!!

So here's the list--I hope you'll come and take a peek before they disappear...

Very Excited!

Every year our local paper publishes a Holiday gift guide every Thursday through Christmas (with the exception of Thanksgiving Day of course).

This year I took an ad out in two of those issues!

My friend (a marketing guru in his own right) was kind enough to create the ad for me and the first run is this Thursday.

This is the first time I've spent this kind of money on an ad so I'm a little nervous, but very excited to see what happens!
Please click on the ad to see it in it's right size. :)

So here's hoping that the Holiday sales pick up for all of us!

New Holiday Jewelry

Well we survived Halloween and now it's time to look forward to the holiday season.

Lots of new Winter holiday pieces were listed this evening (with more to come!).

It's my favorite time of the year and wanted to make sure I got a jump on listing pieces that can be worn all season long.

Jewelry is great for gift giving. Stocking stuffers, secret Santa, favorite teacher, hairdressers, Nannys, BFF's...whoever!

I've seen so many really gorgeous holiday jewelry listed so far and I'm just amazed at the creativity out there.

I hope you'll come and take a look at my new pieces: http://thegoblet.etsy.com/

That In-Between Holidays Time

It's that crazy time of the year again for us crafty people.

Halloween is still a few weeks away and both we (and the stores from the look of it) are also getting ready for the upcoming Christmas season.

Personally this is my favorite time of the year.

All year long I look forward to the time between Sept 1st & Dec. 31st. The rest of the year can just go away as far as I'm concerned. :)

As a crafter though, it takes on a whole new meaning.

We need to be prepared for our customers buying gifts for all sorts of upcoming occasions.

From Halloween, to Holiday parties...stocking stuffers and 'eight crazy nights'...New Years and just about everything else in between, we need to be more prepared for this time of the year than most other folks.

So while the rest of our neighbors might be carving pumpkins and setting out some inflatable lawn ghosties, we busy crafters will be getting in our recently ordered Christmas beads to get going on all sorts of new Holiday designs. (Ok, the beading could just be me, but still...)

In the meantime, feel free to check out my Halloween pieces! There's still time to order and FREE shipping (all year long) in the US! http://thegoblet.etsy.com

Possible Front Page???

Sometimes treasuries just come together in all the right ways!
This is my new one (just went up tonight) and it features Fall leaves in all their spectacular glory.
The photography for these pieces is especially stunning and really helped me to pick out these items.
As usual, I started in the last pages of my search--rather than using the first few pages--I go right to the last ones.
Why?
Because these pieces were listed first and sometimes have been there for months--I want to shine a light on them.
I found talented people with exceptional pieces and the treasury to your left is the result.
I'm really hoping that this one makes the front page. If they are looking for great pics to put up there, these sellers got it goin' on!
To see this treasury in action (it's live until Thurs. the 15th): http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=87568
Enjoy, thanks for looking and as always...

October Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Hey all,

For the month of October, 10% of all sales of items in my "Pink for a Cure" section of my shop will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer.

As someone who has had family and friends touched by this illness, I wanted to help in a different way than just my normal direct contribution to the foundation.

And while I applaud the pink ribbon campaign and all it's done for the cause...pink is good for more than just ribbons!

So please, come and see my Pink for a Cure items. Pick up a gift for a friend or for yourself and do something good in the process!!!

PS. Be sure to check out my new Fall/Halloween section too! :)

Another day another "Less Than 10 Sales" Treasury

I'm on a kick lately to promote shops who, like myself have less than 10 sales.

This one to the left, while expired now, has some wonderful sellers involved. If you click on the pic, you should be able to see their names so that you can look them up on Etsy.

If you'd like to see my current "Less Than 10" Treasury, please click here: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list_west.php?room_id=69859

It is available until Wed. morning so there is plenty of time to discover the undiscovered.

And yes, it's a whole different crop of sellers.

I'm already working on "Less Than 10 Part Three" so stay tuned!

Until next time...

10 Sales or Less!

I currently have a treasury up featuring sellers who have 10 sales or less in their shops...

http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=84331

I've also made sure to keep it Fall/Halloween themed!

Please go check them out--some very talented people there and why they only have a few sales is frankly, quite a mystery.

Thanks!!!

Crafts Fair Hangover

Hey all,

So yesterday I did my first crafts fair in 10 years. While I didn't sell as much as I wanted to (but then, who does?) I did sell a bit more than I thought I would.

I did work very hard to get this one off the ground...and learned many lessons that will help me with future fairs:

1) Doing over 24 hrs. of beading work in three straight days only gives you headaches and makes your eyes go loopy.

2) Going into beads stores with a game-plan is always a good idea...but keep in mind that you will spend at least $50-100 more than you planned at each one. (it's called 'feeding the addiction')

3) Good for you or not, caffeine is just the most wonderful stuff on Earth.

4) Unless you enjoy resembling a pretzel, get up at least once and hour and walk around while creating your pieces. (and keep a heating pad handy!)

5) Having the support of friends and family is just above all, the best thing ever!!!

Now, having learned all of this, I am now ready to go forth and prosper (geek test) and find other shows to sell my pieces. Getting one step closer to making this a full-time job...

...although, I am all for hitting the lottery at ANY moment!

Until next time...

Thank Goodness for 'Vacation Mode!'

Well, I'm not on vacation. However, I am doing my first crafts fair in 10 years or so this weekend. So to make sure I will have inventory for the show, I put my Etsy shop in 'Vacation Mode'.

Soooo simple to do and for me right now a necessity.

If you're not familiar with this function, you just go into your control panel in the 'your etsy' page and on the left-hand side, hit 'vacation mode'.

It will 'hide' your items from buyers but not close your shop until you take it out of 'vacation mode'.

You will also see an option to leave a message to your shop visitors to let them know when you will be back.

Just that simple.

I do feel a little bad because one of my pieces is currently featured in a treasury, (thanks kiwibird1 !) http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=82327 If you click on my piece, you will get the description page, but it does say that I'm 'away'.

So until Sunday of this weekend, my shop is in 'vaca-mode' and hopefully when I reappear, most of my items will have sold on Saturday to make way for new pieces!

A Most Amazing Gift...

Tonight I was overwhelmed by a gift that I was truly not expecting.

Quick background...

Our family's oldest and closest friends (who we consider extended family--calling them Aunt, Cousin, etc) had a nice Sunday bbq get-together today. It was at my Aunt's mom's house...coolest lady out there. So funny and was the closest thing to a grandmother I ever had. She lost the love of her life a year and a half ago. He was quite the gentleman. Life of the party, quick wit, LOVED to dance and do a little flirtin' with the ladies...always had a devilish grin on his face. As long as I've been alive, these folks have been a part of my life.

Ironically, having said all of that what I did not know until just a couple of years ago was that Mr. C was a jewelry maker!

When he passed, Mrs. C kept his workstudio the way he left it. And knowing that I create jewelry now, had offered to give me a few of his tools. I knew going down there today that I might come home with a pair of pliers, maybe a polishing cloth...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

What happened made me more than speechless.

They opened the door to the studio, this little room that he created just the way he wanted it. Perfectly organized--tools everywhere--and drawers and drawers full of supplies. Beads, sterling silver, findings, bags, gemstones, cultured pearls from decades ago, carvings, full oxygen tanks for the blowtorch, soldering guns, you name it, he had it.

And they offered it ALL to me.

ALL

It was like telling a 5 year old, "here is the key to the candy store--go nuts".

I didn't know what to do, where to start, how to go about this. I NEVER expected such a gift!

Once it sunk in, all I could think of was, "ok. How do I cut this room out of the house and strap it to the top of the car?!"

It was amazing. Going through everything he had, every time I picked something up, I found something else underneath. He had it all. I'm still in shock at how much I found (and thinking of what I may have missed!).

I took what I could today. Lots of beads and findings. A few pairs of tools that I so badly needed. They were very surprised I didn't take more, but again, I was completely overwhelmed by what had just been presented to me.

Mrs. C kept saying, "you come back and get more, whenever you want. It's yours and you know what it's all for--I don't!" lol

Even as I'm writing this, I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened today.

But I'm doing it with a big smile and a lot of love in my heart.

Wow.

Until next time...

Treasury Madness Continues--Workin' the Spectrum

Welcome back!
Ok so far we've touched on themes, dealing with the sellers you are featuring and the basics of what exactly a Treasury is.

Now I'd like to talk color.

This past weekend I was able to get two Treasuries. One in 'main' and one in Treasury West. (which I know I have to explain one day, sorry)

The first one, (see pic to the left) is well, 'steel based'. All works made with nails. Yes, nails.

I don't know where the idea came from but once I started looking things up, it came together beautifully.

If you notice from the screenshot, I didn't pick anything that had a contrasting background. That is on purpose.

I originally had some pieces, also beautiful, but their photo backgrounds didn't fit with what I was hoping to do. For this Treasury, I wanted the steel grays to really be the focal point--therefore--I wanted everything chosen to have that kind of black and white 'old movie' feel to it.
Now, I mentioned I was able to get two Treasuries this time around...
Well, for this second one, I went in the total opposite direction and really wanted a lot of color.

I also wanted to get the 'Lollipop' song out of my head (thanks Dell for using THAT for your damned ads)--so I decided why not go with something fun and super colorful:

It's so great when you have two completely different Treasuries running such as this to see the reactions folks have to it.

I love reading the comments after my Treasury goes 'live'.

Apparently this Lollipop one has been bringing back a lot of memories for folks and to me, that's fantastic.

It doesn't have to just be about promoting your work either. Neither of these Treasuries have my work in them.

Sometimes it's just about what comes to mind, what inspires you, what mood you're in that day...so many ways to create.

Color though is a wonderful way to start.

One of my first was all involving my favorite color, blue. And as you can see in a previous post, I did one that was all minty green.

The sky is the limit when it comes to creating your Treasury. So have some fun with it, but also be respectful as (and this can't be stressed enough) you are representing other artists' works.

I'll leave you with that thought for now.

Until next time...

Treasury Madness Three--Be Silly!

I've been noticing a trend with Treasuries lately, and that trend is, safe and serious.
My question for folks is, why?

Don't get me wrong, I have seen some beautiful collections--wonderful color combos--featuring great sellers--etc.

But sometimes it's ok to add a little silliness!

Take my last two Treasuries. (See pics)

I asked for suggestions for a theme and was thrown 'Big Noses'. A little off-beat but then again, so am I. So I went with it.

One of the great things about Treasuries is discovering what is out there on Etsy. By putting in a simple term like 'big nose' into the search box the items that came up were hysterical and it was so much fun to run with the idea. (no pun intended there)
It's easy to put in terms such as 'earrings' or 'felt'--granted, being a designer of earrings, I'm always hoping that my work will show up in the searches. However, every now and then, think of something strange or outside the box and see what happens!

The same weekend I created the 'Big Noses' Treasury, I also created the 'Krazy Characters' Treasury_West. (we'll get into the differences between Treasury pages another time)

This was another fun one. By putting 'characters' as my search term some wild and crazy items came up--and it was quite difficult to decide which 12 items would be highlighted. When I finally decided, this was the result:

I guess what I'm trying to get across here is that Treasuries can be fun as well as colorful.
As you've seen from my previous Treasury collections (see previous posts), I can be all about the color. I've even been on the more subdued side--tranquil, etc.
Every now and then it's fun to be silly.
My 'Big Nose' theme had more hits, clicks and comments than any other Treasury I've created. Was really hoping it would be front page bound--but alas, it did not make it there.
My thinking on this???
Other folks were hoping for some silly as well. :)
Until next time...

Ode to the Sales Fairy!

On Etsy, we often pay homage to the mystical being known only as: The Sales Fairy.

A mystery to many of us trying to drive more sales our way, this Sales Fairy is thought by some to be a distant relative of the groundhog. For it seems that she too shows up only once a year to see it's shadow.

We conjur, we chant, we dedicate full threads to her in the promotions forum...yet...this magical creature remains elusive.

So I ask now, how...HOW does one get this mavelous being to touch up on us? To come down and sprinkle some of that magic fairy dust uponst our shops? (Basically, what do we have to do suck up so that we can get more sales???!)

As I end this update allow me to say to all...May the Sales Fairy Be With You!

(And may she find my shop!!!)

Until next time...

Treasury Madness--The Sequel

My addiction was fed again with yet another new Treasury today!

It's a hot, humid day and something cool just seemed the way to go. So my theme for this one???

Minty Fresh!

I've had wonderful comments made and the sellers whose works I've picked have all been so nice.

Speaking of the sellers, we need to touch base on something I left out of my last post...contact.

When you create a Treasury, be sure to let the sellers know that they are being featured! Let's face it, if it wasn't for their items, you would have no Treasury!

The easiest I've found is to contact them from their item page itself--this way they know exactly which of their products is being featured.

Just a quick note is fine...no need to write a novel's worth. A short, "hi I've featured you in my Treasury" is appropriate--and oh yeah--make sure to include your Treasury's link in the convo!

I've found that 99% of the time I will get a very nice thank you back, which is always great. I've also ended up having some great back-and-forths with some of the sellers I've featured...learning and sharing a lot with them.

Remember, your not just creating a Treasury, you are also networking. Promoting your own store by making contacts and in some cases, forging friendships.

Sending a note a seller's way also gives them the tools to promote as well. "Hey, I was featured in so-and-so's Treasury! Come take a look!" Or doing what I'm doing by posting screen shots both on here and on my Facebook Jewelry page.

I'm a big believer in 'what goes around comes around'. You help other sellers and they will help you out in return.

So go forth and create your new Treasury and once it's up and live remember...GO TELL THE SELLERS! :)

In the meantime. go check out mine: Minty Fresh

Until next time...

Treasury Madness--The Why's and What-fors

Today I was lucky enough to score a new Treasury. I decided to do a Swirly type of theme--fun, whimsical, and lots to choose from!

I'm a Treasury addict. I admit it.

I love going in and discovering other artists...seeing how people put together their choices and how they go with the titles they chose.

If you don't know what a Treasury is, it's a special feature on Etsy where members (both buyers and sellers) have the opportunity to create a gallery of works done by Etsy artisans.

It gives the curator a chance to show off their favorites and give sellers some extra promotion time. (And what's better than free promotions?)

Getting a Treasury is pretty much a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Treasuries last between 2-3 days and when they expire (in real time) and get below their minimum numbers, a form will come up at the bottom of the page inviting you to create your own page. (There are much better instructions on Etsy itself--main page>treasury>scroll to bottom.)

Many times, depending on the chosen theme, I try to include items that use my Treasury title in their item title. Doesn't always work out that way, but that's how I like to start off.

One of my last Treasuries had the theme of colors in the Crayola Crayon 64 box. I used items that had the actual color names from Crayola and used this list as a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Crayola_crayon_colors

The result was this Treasury:

Another big thing I like to do, once I come up with a theme is....while doing my search for an item, I don't like to take pieces from the first few pages unless there are only a few pages.

Or to be clearer...for my new Treasury (first pic) I chose a 'Swirly' theme. When I put the term 'swirl' in the Etsy search, there were 1113 pages that came up. So, I go right to the last page. Why? Because I search by date listed and those at the end have been listed for a much longer time than those on the first or second pages and I like to give those sellers a chance to be seen.

Let's face it, I know when I'm looking for something, I'm not going to go through all 1113 pages!

But those items deserve to be looked at as much as those most recently listed so why not add them to a Treasury?

Now that you have my insight, go in and take a look around! Just go to Etsy.com look at the left-hand side menu and look for the word "Treasury". The rest is up to you!!!

(You can always start with my current one as a jumping-off point: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=72179 just remember, it expires in three days!)

Until next time...

Technology Good vs. Evil

I had one of those days where technology both worked for and against me.

On one hand, my new Craftopolis ad that I've got running this week has already been brining traffic to my website. I've gotten more hits in one day than I've had in a while. I'm thinking this is a good thing!

(now if the sales fairy would find me it would be even better)

At the same time all of this has been going on, I did some site updating today and while trying to do so, my program froze, the coding got all screwed up and it took hours longer than I thought it would.

I'm happy to say that after much frustration and threatening to throw my laptop out the window, I figured out the problem and all is right with the world again.

It always amazes me how life balances out sometimes.

PS. The laptop has survived the ordeal and will be here to live another day.

The first post...

Welcome to TheGoblet.com's new blog brought to you by Goblet Designs Jewelry.

I design mainly using sterling silver, gemstone and lampwork glass beads. You can see some of my work on the right-hand side of the screen and clicking on a piece will take you to my Etsy shop.

One of the first questions I always get is, "how did you come up with 'The Goblet'?"

Well, my answer is this...

The name came to be when two ideas combined into one. When I started designing in 2000, I had a big love of all things Medievil. And when I would be 'blocked' for ideas, I would take this silver goblet that I had and throw handfuls of beads into it to see what ideas would come about just by looking into the vessel.

Think jewelry design meets Iron Chef!

The block would end and suddenly I would come up with idea after idea. Sometimes it would be finding a much different color combination I've never done before, or just really taking notice of beads I may have overlooked...that goblet was a blocked designers savior!

(now I use a bowl)

When it came time to pick a name, I thought about what I did and what I use as far as tools and materials. I came up with a ton of names and did hours of searching to see just how original I really was.

After I decided to stop obsessing about a name, it came to me. One night I was making a few pieces, saw the goblet on my table and ta-da!

I like having an original name. It stands out, it's memorable, and most of all, it's mine. :)

So welcome to my blog. Make yourself at home and I'll be back real soon!
